Represesentation in films

Social Groups- This film is a film presented for a younger audience, we see this by various aspects of the scene.
The film uses various outlets to introduce the genre of the film, this is done by using many various things, the theme song of the film is used to create a soft reminiscent feeling towards the film, this can be used to entice people of all ages to view the rest of the film, I believe this scene is very good as it fully presents the genre of the film to the target audience. The reminiscent feeling of this film is presented by the bright soft images used throughout the scene, this is done to entice viewers to watch the film in its entirety, the images of this film also present a snippet of romance and that may be used to attract viewers of all ages.

Social Groups- this film is presented and targeted at a much more developed audience, the themes and images in this film are not suitable for the younger population.
The rough gritty images in this film are used to attract and at the same time repel some viewers, the bold violent images are used to entice viewers of the older population whereas this is also used to repel younger viewers this film may not be suitable towards. The film uses violent images to present the genre of the film and some of the themes that will run throughout the films entirety, The film also uses these images and the images used in this scene, such as the girl running away to present some suspense towards the rest of the film, this is used to attract the viewers to watch the rest of the film.

Social Groups- This film is most obviously presented and targeted at a older population/ audience.
The images in this scene are very bold, the film uses this initial scene to present to the viewers the genre of the film, the suspense in this scene is used to create a feeling of sympathy for the characters being attacked and makes the viewer want to see what happened to the characters after this initial scene. The film uses some dark images, what with the supposed attacker stalking the young girl is very chaotic, this presents a suspenseful feeling as the viewers know that something bad is going to happen but they want to stay around to find out what that feeling may be alluding towards, whether it be a death of something less, the viewer know that something is going to happen and want to find out what it is.

Narrative structure.

Pans Labyrinth is a fantastic film about a young girl who escapes from her sadistic stepfather by entrapping herself in an eery fantasy world located within her imagination, the story confronts the stereotypical view of family life for small adults/teenagers, the film is very blunt and makes the viewer sympathize with the protagonist as she fades away into her won imagination, trapped in an imaginary world located within herself, she wants to escape her troubles but doesn't want to be trapped in where she believes to be her lonesome sanctuary.

In this title sequence the introductions of the actors has been integrated into this scenes animation sequence, the animation in this sequence is kind of dark and gives away the theme and genre of the film, this sequence uses background images to introduce the actors and exaggerates the genre of the film.

Narrative Structure-

In this scene we are introduced to the actors names and the name of the film, the way the actors are introduced is innovative and requires little to no effort despite being a great way to introduce actors, the background and props used in this scene are used to highlight the genre of the film and the simplicity of the film as a whole.

In this opening scene we are introduced to the genre of the film and specifically the audience the film is most probably aimed at, we are also given the information as to who the characters/ the main characters of the film are played by. This opening scene is used to build up suspense and tension to entice the audience to watch the rest of the film.

This opening scene present the viewer with some vital information as to who the film was created and produced by, the genre of the film is also somewhat identified through the action of the actors throughout the scene. The images in this scene are used to create a sort of suspense around the characters. The way the films name is introduced creates a sense of pathos as the ready gets a sense of what the film is about.

Narrative Structure.

Narrative structure

Todorov-

Equilibrium ,this is the start of the story. narrative where everything is as it should be, no problems have yet arisen and everything is ordinary.  This is where all the characters are content and everything is perfect/ just as it was before.

Disruption, the second part of the story will feature some sort of disruption,  this will be  problem that disrupts the initial equilibrium of the story.

Realisation, this is the part of the story where all of the characters realise the problem and everything is chaos, the equilibrium is further disrupted.

Restored order, this is the part of the story where the characters involved make and attempt to fix the problem/ solve the problem that has been presented before them.

Equilibrium, again, this is the part of the plot where the problem is definetly solved, equilibrium returns to the characters lives and everything continues to go on as it did before.

The End, the problem has been resolved and all of the characters continue on with their lives as they did before.

Vladimir Propp-
Character types:
The hero- seeks something
The villain- opposes the hero
The donor- helps the hero by providing a magical object
The dispatcher- send the hero on his journey
The false hero- someone falsely assuming the role of the hero.
The helper- gives support to the hero
The princess- someone who is seen as a reward for the hero but is also someone who needs protecting from the villain
The father- protects the princess

Levi Strauss-
Binary opposites: Levi Strauss believed that binary opposites were two opposing words of characters, he believed that the way we understand words depends not so much on any meaning themselves directly contain, but much more our understanding of the word and its ‘opposite’ or as he called it, its ‘binary opposite’

Learning Comment:
I have learned the importance of editing and camera skills etc. and how all of these things contribute to the success of my scene and how they can greatly increase or decrease the quality of my opening scene. I have learned that the camera needs to be smooth and the editing needs to be the same also, the props and background images (mise en scene) need to suit the genre of my film and they all need to have at least a snippet of significance for me to focus on them even a little.

I had the add the text instead of the recording for now as it wont upload from my phone to the blog, i will fix this problem when the chance arises.

Audience Research

Analysis of Audience Research and the connections and repetitions between certain genres and their audience.

Submarine-
Richard Ayoade's film 'submarine' was a massive success in the box office, it achieved the highest UK pre-screen figures of any film since its release in 2010, the films cinema showings had increased from being shown in 59 countries to a massive 100.

As you can tell this film was a massive success, here is a breakdown of the rating for the show and the amount of people who watched it and their gender and age
As we see the gender breakdown shows us that the amount of females is practically the same as the amount of females, this may have been because of the films genre or even because of Richard Ayoades prominent stature in the film industry.
We also see that the age for the people that watched and voted for the film is much higher than expected, this may also be due to the genre or nature of the film as although it is about a teenager it has some very mature and serious ideologies running throughout the entirety of the film.
I cannot find anything to do with these peoples social class but i believe from watching the film that because of the audience it is aimed at, the film would most probably have been watched by more working-middle class individuals, the film confronts some ideologies to do with a working class lifestyle and that may appeal more to working class citizens, this may be because they can more easily relate to the film and the themes it is presenting.

Easy A-
Will Gluck's film 'Easy A was a comedic masterpiece and was enjoyed by many people, not just individuals located in the directors target audience. The film tackled the life of everyday students and the dilemmas they face throughout their academic life.

The film 'Easy A' is highly regarded amounts film critics, I myself believe the film was a great representation of how a child's academic life is not as great as schools make them out to be, that the facade that schools create is just a front to mask the terrible intentions of some, if not most of the students and even some of the teachers, the film exaggerates the separation between high-school students even though they go through school together.
This gender and age breakdown show us that many more females had given the movie a higher rating, even though less of them have voted on the film, this may be due to the fact that the protagonist of the story is a strong willed females, intending on escaping the confines of school life and making her mark on the way out, We also see from these ratings that more people enjoyed the film that were an age over 18 and above, this may be because people of that age may be able to relate to the film, seeing as they may be going through the exact same thing at the moment.
The target social class of the viewers was spot on with who viewed the movie, the film was aimed at more middle-class individuals and that is exaggerated by the ideologies of the film and the themes that connect the whole movie together.

The perks of being a wallflower.
Stephen Chibsky's 2012 film 'the perks of being a wallflower' is both a literary and cinema masterpiece, the film presents the viewer with some every strong and mature images but it still manages to come across as a film aimed at younger people.

'The perks of being a wallflower' is an amazing film that tackles the ideals of a teenagers life and how difficult and mentally straining it is to grow up and pass that stage into adulthood. The film follows a boy with a mental illness as he attempts to confront his demons, he then meets a girl, who, to her oblivious attitudes has not realized that the boy has begun to fall deeply in love with her, the boy is sort of a caricature as it represents all teens struggles as they 'come of age'
As we can see the film was rated slightly higher by females, i would not base this down to any certain detail, except for the fact tat females are generally stereotyped as much more sympathetic than males and therefor will care much more for his character but that is just my inference, not solid fact. I can also see that individuals aged 19-29 rated the film much higher, this will be because the target market was selected so that the characters can understand the more mature themes of the film whilst still being able to relate to the characters.
The target social class of the audience is quite frankly a more broad one, i do not believe the film was aimed at any one social class as it can be related to by any individual and does not require a certain social class to be understood and related to. This is a very good idea as a much more diverse audience gets to enjoy the film and that means much more money and profit for the film companies producing this film.

Learning Comment: I myself absolutely adore the style of Stephen Chibsky, he confronts the idea of a teenagers life being simple and easy, that is the ideal i want to be expressed by my opening scene. Stephen Chibsky also liked to use some very simple sound and audio inclusions, i like that idea as it does not overpower the images on screen, i will be sure to use this in my opening scene.

Analysis- Our target market tends to single out some percentages of the population, despite us wanting to create a coming of age film directed towards all ages, this is because of consumer opinions, if the type of film we create is not to the viewers preference then the film will be ignored, one way we could involve all types of audience is by using aspects of the majority of films, even all film genres if possible.

Title Research

Title Research.

This first scene in Juno is amazing, the way the producers uses the clunky 'art' style images is just amazing, it expresses lots about th genre of the film, i also really like the way the text is integrated into the background and the font o the text really suits the genre and themes of the film in my opinion.
