Typography

For the text used in my film i with to use something that is soft on the eyes whilst also being bold enough to present some of the thees of the film, this is a very hard thing to do as most of the time people do not pay attention to the font a the text used, nevertheless the font still has some sort of impact on the audience.
1st Font
this font is good because of the sharp edges yet the simplicity of the bold letters seems to overshadow the edges, this might be able to work with my scene but i believe i would like something smoother for my final font.
2rd Font
this font is much thinner than the first one, i believe that the letters will be better thinner, this is because the fact that the letters being thinner will not make the background seem lesser/ overshadow the detail of the background.
3th Font
This font is very good , the thin lines match with the genre or images presented in my film, though i do believe that the sharp edges are too sharp and seem to overpower the thin lines.
4th Font
Whilst i believe that the text/ font here is very innocent i also believe that the letters are too immature for the genre and type of film i am presenting.

5th Font
I firstly thought that this font might be good for the film as it is very soft and comical, after looking at it or an elongated amount i time i have decided that i do not like this font, i believe the change in letter thickness and tilt presented a much to comical film.

The final choice for the text will be chosen when the opening scene/sequence has been created, this is because different texts might look better on the background i have chosen. I do have one text that i find most favourable, this font is ----->

Fixings

This type of text is very elegant I like the thin text and the way it looks scribbled on a piece of paper, this text will be good for my film as the genre of the film would fit well with this feminine text, this will then appeal to my target audience.

This text is good because it agin suits the target audience pf my film, though i do not like the fact that some spots of the text are missing, making it look like it was painted with a dull brush.

This text is one of my favourites, it has a moderately thin width and it would look good with the genre of my film, this text will also suit my target audience as it would suit the very feminine feeling of my film.

This text is not as good as the other ones I have viewed, I believe the text is much too messy, although I do want it to look handwritten, this is too messy for the film that I want to make and my target audience.

This text is very good, it is in fact one of my favourites, i am very fond of the thickness of the text whilst the text is very smooth, this will be very suitable for the genre and target audience of my film, the feminine edges and thickness will suit my film and its background.

this font is very good, i like the way the text is very informal, it makes it look much more like it s handwritten, this will also suit the genre of my film

I have decided to change the texts to these types of fonts, this style of handwritten fonts is much more suitable to use in my scene, this is because of the target audience and the genre of my film. This handwritten style is much more attractive as there are no bold blocky letters and sharp edges.

We have decided to use this font in our film
we believe that this is the best choice due to the metaphorical pain given off by the text. We believe wholeheartedly that this font is the best choice to display the pain that Quinn is experiencing on er lonely venture away from home.

Sound and music choice.

Potential Soundtrack choices.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/better-days

This track is very good, it creates a soft sad mood and atmosphere that go in sync with the genre and images of my film, this could be used at the end of the scene to exaggerate the sadness and venerability of Quinn as a character.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/slow-motion

I am very cautious about using this track, the upbeat and the rhythm are probably much too fast for my scene, though I do like the repeated high notes in the background of the track, this could be used when the pano shot of the bridge is shown, listening later on I do not like the beat that comes in around 1:20, this beat is much too happy for the genre of my film.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/november      (Potential final soundtrack.)

This song choice is very good for this type and genre of the film, the slow beat would work very will in unison of the last few frames/scene, this song is very slow and gives a good feel for the sadness and loneliness of Quinn, whom has previously run away from the people she loves.
The progression of the tempo is very good and will work with the genre and images of my film.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/tomorrow

This track is amazing, i love the fact that the whole song is just a solo guitar acoustic sound, this could in fact be used to exaggerate the sadness and the loneliness of the film, therefor this reflects the loneliness of the character.(Quinn)
The sadness of the song and the slow beat can be used to reflect how Quinn believes her life is moving slowly with no real progression.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/piano-moment

on first impressions, this scene is a bit too upbeat for the genre of y film, though I do like the fact tat the only sound is the acoustic piano playing on its own, this would work well with the genre of my film, though I really do believe that this song is much too fast paced for the genre and images I am presenting in my film.

http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/once-again

Once again by first impressions this song is very suitable for the genre of my film, the medium paced beat in the start of the song would work well with the sadness of the scene that i am filming, this is because the pace of the film can be used to reflect how nervous Quinn is, considering she i planning to kill herself, this sound would be put to good use either in the end or the start of my film opening scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCCJc_V8_MQ     (May be copyrighted)

This track despite the possibility that it might be copyrighted is very good and would perfectly suit the genre of my film, I saw this song being used in the very popular 'me and earl and the dying girl' this film like i hope mine to be uses this song in a very tense and suspense filled scene that makes the viewer want to watch the rest of the film continued. this song would perfectly suit the genre of my film, this is because the film presents some very sad images and that can be reflected through the sound in the background of my scene/ last couple of frames.

These potential sound tracks are in the general genre that i want for my film, i like the slower ones as it gives a much more dramatic feeling to the film, this will suit my ffilm because of the themes and imagery presented by my film, i beilieve my favourite so far is the track called 'november' this is becuase thew slow start is exactly what i want for my film.

Audience Profile

My coming of age film, what with it being a drama, will typically be using the target audience that includes many of the younger generation. My coming of age film will use certain techniques to attract and entice the younger generation to take the time to view my film.

Primary audience- This will be mostly teens of age 11-20. This is solely because of the maturity of my film, some of the themes presented in my film are not suitable for the children or early teens; this is because some of the children might find the themes I am presenting too mature for them to understand.
Here is one example of the primary audience being teens for typical coming of age films.

Secondary Audience- My secondary audience will mostly be parents taking their children to watch my film, the secondary audience will mostly consist of the older generation, however some adults may choose to watch my film of their own choice and decision. this is becuase of the fact that my film will be presenting some themes that may attract a wider audi
ence.

The gender of my target audience will mostly be girls;  this is because of the genre of the film, typically the male population will stay away from films within the drama genre, this may be because the male population may be bored by the images and themes within my film, though this is playing to the stereotypes of males and their choice films.

The general age of the population that will be viewing my film are teenagers and young adults, aged 11-20, this is again because of the genres and themes presented throughout my film, the most mature thees and images in my film will most probably keep the younger population away from my film, this will impact my films rating and the ending popularity of the film.

The general social class of my film will be people from the working class to the middle class, this is once again because of the themes and genres of my film, it may also be due to the fact that some of the images presented in my film will only be applicable to people of the lower class and the middle class, things such as the lack of money, this will not be applicable to the higher class population.

Final Idea

Final Idea

On from my final idea i have changed some of the prospects of my film, firstly the actual scene will not be filmed at the severn bridge, this will be much easer todo as its close to my house and i do not need to travel very far to e able to film it, it is also much easier because its much more public and i can film around it as much as i want.
Next i have changed the base elements of the scene, i will be doing a scene where we watch my protagonist debating whether to commit suicide whilst she plays numerous voicemails left by ere friends, family and her doctor. The doctor is involved because the girl in this scene has some sort of illness. The girl has previously missed one of her impending doctors appointment the doctors. The sub-genres of this film are thriller and drama, hence the 12A age certificate, this is because the images in the film may be too mature and bold for a younger audience to handle, this may be distressing to some children, henceforth the age certificate. The film name we have chosen is 'Escaping from myself' this is because of the genres of my film, 'Escaping from myself' has connotations to the journey taken by young adults to work out who they really are and what they want to do in the future, tis links to my film as Quinn does not believe she has a future, this then links to the film because it is about her extended journey to find herself.

Preliminary Task

Match on action- An editing technique for continually editing in which one shot cuts to other shot portraying the action of the subject of the first shot.

Shot/reverse shot- A film technique where one character is looking at another character (often off-screen) and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.

108 degree rule- When you film a scene using separate shots, its important as people understand where everything in the scene is. 180 degree role will help you do this. Shot 1- Long shot. Shot 2- from the side, imagine you are watching the scene from the side.

This scene is one that me and another of my classmates filmed, i think the scene went very well for a first time but on a more advanced level is much to simplistic, we did not pay attention to the lighting and the perspectives of the filming angles, this takes away from the overall creditability of the scene, i believe my editing somewhat improves the scenes quality, i used aspects of all the required elements (match on action, shot/reverse shot and 180 degree rule) this improves the quality of the film as it presents the viewer with something to watch out for.

Represesentation in films

Social Groups- This film is a film presented for a younger audience, we see this by various aspects of the scene.
The film uses various outlets to introduce the genre of the film, this is done by using many various things, the theme song of the film is used to create a soft reminiscent feeling towards the film, this can be used to entice people of all ages to view the rest of the film, I believe this scene is very good as it fully presents the genre of the film to the target audience. The reminiscent feeling of this film is presented by the bright soft images used throughout the scene, this is done to entice viewers to watch the film in its entirety, the images of this film also present a snippet of romance and that may be used to attract viewers of all ages.

Social Groups- this film is presented and targeted at a much more developed audience, the themes and images in this film are not suitable for the younger population.
The rough gritty images in this film are used to attract and at the same time repel some viewers, the bold violent images are used to entice viewers of the older population whereas this is also used to repel younger viewers this film may not be suitable towards. The film uses violent images to present the genre of the film and some of the themes that will run throughout the films entirety, The film also uses these images and the images used in this scene, such as the girl running away to present some suspense towards the rest of the film, this is used to attract the viewers to watch the rest of the film.

Social Groups- This film is most obviously presented and targeted at a older population/ audience.
The images in this scene are very bold, the film uses this initial scene to present to the viewers the genre of the film, the suspense in this scene is used to create a feeling of sympathy for the characters being attacked and makes the viewer want to see what happened to the characters after this initial scene. The film uses some dark images, what with the supposed attacker stalking the young girl is very chaotic, this presents a suspenseful feeling as the viewers know that something bad is going to happen but they want to stay around to find out what that feeling may be alluding towards, whether it be a death of something less, the viewer know that something is going to happen and want to find out what it is.

Narrative structure.

Pans Labyrinth is a fantastic film about a young girl who escapes from her sadistic stepfather by entrapping herself in an eery fantasy world located within her imagination, the story confronts the stereotypical view of family life for small adults/teenagers, the film is very blunt and makes the viewer sympathize with the protagonist as she fades away into her won imagination, trapped in an imaginary world located within herself, she wants to escape her troubles but doesn't want to be trapped in where she believes to be her lonesome sanctuary.

In this title sequence the introductions of the actors has been integrated into this scenes animation sequence, the animation in this sequence is kind of dark and gives away the theme and genre of the film, this sequence uses background images to introduce the actors and exaggerates the genre of the film.

Narrative Structure-

In this scene we are introduced to the actors names and the name of the film, the way the actors are introduced is innovative and requires little to no effort despite being a great way to introduce actors, the background and props used in this scene are used to highlight the genre of the film and the simplicity of the film as a whole.

In this opening scene we are introduced to the genre of the film and specifically the audience the film is most probably aimed at, we are also given the information as to who the characters/ the main characters of the film are played by. This opening scene is used to build up suspense and tension to entice the audience to watch the rest of the film.

This opening scene present the viewer with some vital information as to who the film was created and produced by, the genre of the film is also somewhat identified through the action of the actors throughout the scene. The images in this scene are used to create a sort of suspense around the characters. The way the films name is introduced creates a sense of pathos as the ready gets a sense of what the film is about.

Narrative Structure.

Narrative structure

Todorov-

Equilibrium ,this is the start of the story. narrative where everything is as it should be, no problems have yet arisen and everything is ordinary.  This is where all the characters are content and everything is perfect/ just as it was before.

Disruption, the second part of the story will feature some sort of disruption,  this will be  problem that disrupts the initial equilibrium of the story.

Realisation, this is the part of the story where all of the characters realise the problem and everything is chaos, the equilibrium is further disrupted.

Restored order, this is the part of the story where the characters involved make and attempt to fix the problem/ solve the problem that has been presented before them.

Equilibrium, again, this is the part of the plot where the problem is definetly solved, equilibrium returns to the characters lives and everything continues to go on as it did before.

The End, the problem has been resolved and all of the characters continue on with their lives as they did before.

Vladimir Propp-
Character types:
The hero- seeks something
The villain- opposes the hero
The donor- helps the hero by providing a magical object
The dispatcher- send the hero on his journey
The false hero- someone falsely assuming the role of the hero.
The helper- gives support to the hero
The princess- someone who is seen as a reward for the hero but is also someone who needs protecting from the villain
The father- protects the princess

Levi Strauss-
Binary opposites: Levi Strauss believed that binary opposites were two opposing words of characters, he believed that the way we understand words depends not so much on any meaning themselves directly contain, but much more our understanding of the word and its ‘opposite’ or as he called it, its ‘binary opposite’
