What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt many things about technologies, most importantly; how to use them correctly and how to use them to my advantage. I have mastered things such as working the camera and learnt how the angles and lighting all affect the quality of my film, one such example is my preliminary task compared to my final piece, my final product has much better editing than the preliminary task. I have also learnt of the importance of much less explained things like editing , blogs and music choices,, before starting my final task I hadn't paid much attention to these things and perceived them as somewhat insignificant, whereas I now understand how these 'insignificant' things affect the audience, for example the wrong type of music chosen can and will ruin a whole product, I now understand how to use online technologies tot their full extent and have improved vastly from my work at the beginning of the course.

iMovie
We used iMovie to complete the editing part of the production of the media product, without this editing the product would not have nearly the same impact as it does right now, i have been using iMovie since the start of the course, I had to adjust the way that I edited my products as I have previously been using Adobe after effects CC to edit work from my home, i had to adjust the depth i went into the editing on my work, as i believe that adobe after effects is much easier to use than iMovie and has much more depth for editing, in iMovie i was able to edit things such as the duration of the clips and the text that i had inserted into the product, along with the transitions i used from clip to clip.
As you can see clearly adobe after effects is much more difficult to use but due to the length of time i have been using it i have gotten used to using the programme, therefor it was much harder for me to use iMovie than it normally would be, though i do believe that i have used it well enough.
Here are some of the examples of the editing we have done in iMovie.

Sound
I have also learnt how to handle and use to my advantage the sound included in my media product, whether it be the background noise of the raw clips or sound added in editing, i have learnt of the importance of song choice and how much that affects the atmosphere surrounding my media product, for example if the song does not suit the clips and they contrast each other without working well together then the clips can be misinterpreted, making the media product much less powerful and have less of an impact on the audience, we have to change the song choice of our media product multiple time because of advice from various people in our target audience telling us that the sound did not match the film, therefor we settled on a much better song choice for our product.
We also had to learn about the restrictions on certain tracks because of copyright; therefor we used a free music website and found a song suitable with no chance of copyright infringement.

These were just two potential soundtracks we settled on, the choice we had to make had to suit the media product we had filmed so we finally settled on the track 'November'

Camera Work

Furthermore i learnt how camera angles can affect the attractiveness of a clip, i learnt about the various camera angles and i have used them to my advantage throughout my filming process.
here we see one of the camera angles we used in my preliminary task, this angle centers the actor in the middle of the screen, something i have now learnt not to do, as this reduces the size of the character and makes the camera look extremely far away, i have corrected this very amateurish move in my final product and have found some much better camera angles to use.

Here is an example of an over the shoulder shot, something i have used throughout all of my filming.

This is the example of the over the shoulder shot in my final product, we used this shot to emphasise the importance of the character and the height they are currently at, this makes the shot much more powerful and fits in well with the song in the background.

These camera shot angles have been done purposely for whatever need i had in that media product, nothing is done by accident and i have gained the ability to recognize the importance of these angles, not only in my own work but also the work of others.

Throughout the course i have also learnt how to use various websites to present my work and the different ways in which i can present it to make it all look much more professional. Here are some examples of the websites that i have used throughout the course.

These websites have been a large help in the presentation of my work, these websites have helped me improve the structure of my work and the way in which people are able to view it.

How does your media represent particular social groups?

Filming Edits.

We have now trimmed the clips to make them more suitable to the media product, this improves fluidity and increases the speed of the product, this was because on evaluation we decided that the media product was a bit too slow and the audience we interview said that the product started to get boring with it being very slow from the onset.

Filming edits.

We next need to add voicemails to the product, the font has now been changed to one that we much prefer and one that more directly suits the social group that we are trying to appeal to.
Furthermore we have added the film producer and film company into the start of the product to increase its validity and creditability. The text is still white on the darker background of the filming.

Filming Edits.

The next task was to add text to the media product, we have not changed the font or any of the times that the text is displayed on screen, we have consulted with each other and have decided on the font and the duration of the text being on the screen.

we decided that the text seemed too dark on the already dark background, this is due to the weather on the day so that is something we cannot fix within the actual media, we will be changing the text to better suit the background and the clips shown on screen.

We have now chosen o make the text white as it more suits the dark background of the clips rather than the plain black we had initially.

Filming Edits.

after doing some previous minor edits we decided that we need to replace some of the frames and clips to increase the fluidity of the media product, we decided to do some replacement filming inside of school, this was hard however as the background is not the same and we did not have major element in the school that e had at the bridge, such as the railings of the bridge.
We decided not to film any sort of Ffion's face as that would fully give away the fact that it was not filmed in the same location as the other clips, Ffion wore the same clothes and has a similar body type to the original actor so we felt that she would be a good temporary substitute.
Furthermore we took the sound out of the clips and made them a similar length to the rest of the clips to further make the audience think that the clips were filmed in the same place as the rest of the film clips.
Next we used our new found knowledge of camera angles, editing and how to move the camera itself to make the product seem more fluid rather than the before seen blocky movements.
