Director Case Study

Jason Reitman

Jason Reitman (born October 19, 1977) is a Canadian-American film director, screenwriter, and producer, best known for directing the films Thank You for Smoking (2005), Juno (2007), Up in the Air (2009), and Young Adult (2011). As of February 2, 2010, he has received one Grammy award and four Academy Award nominations, two of which are for Best Director. Reitman is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States. He is the son of director Ivan Reitman.
Jason Reitman is an extremely famous man=, known for making very successful opening sequences, Reitman has made some very famous opening sequences, such as Juno and Jennifer's body.
Jason Reitman has produced some very revolutionary opening sequences and shows his style of producing very well.
Jason Reitman uses strong narrative to express the genre his movies produced. Reitman sometimes uses actors more than once and has sometimes often recycled actors to use them in other movies that he has produced and directed.
Reitman had started to apply for acting roles himself on his early teen years, not fully knowing how much he wanted to produce movies instead of appearing in them. Reitman has a very deliberate style, as seen in Juno. Reitman likes to use some very unique and practically hipster' editing styles and techniques.

Learning comments: Jason Reitman uses some very profound styles, for example he like to break the stigma that all teenagers films should be 'soft' and 'cheesy' i despise this stereotype as teenage life is nothing like that, I intend to use this style in my opening sequence as i believe it will give my opening sequence a certain unique-ness that cannot be replicated easily. Jason Reitman also like to use a soft audio style to match the genre of films he makes, i also intend to do this as if you have some audio that does not match the genre and themes of the movie it distracts you away from the films quality, as it has done so many times before.
